It’s the Season for S.T.E.P. — Empowering Lives, Restoring Hope

‘Tis the season for giving! Unless you are S.T.E.P. (St. Louis Park Emergency Program) then every day is about giving and service. S.T.E.P is a community food shelf and social service agency. The organization directly provides food, clothing and advocacy to and for residents in need. Since January 2016 S.T.E.P. has given 427,561 pounds of food to their clients.

S.T.E.P. is our neighbor, and as a good neighbor we like to help S.T.E.P. when we can. Knowing that the holidays can be an extremely stressful time as we all strive to provide a magical holiday for our families, S.T.E.P. is extra stretched to meet the needs of the season and bring hope and light to some of our more vulnerable neighbors. So, we decided to pitch in to help S.T.E.P. help families this season in a couple of ways.

The first way Anderson Companies helped was with a food drive. Our team collected food, toiletries and money for S.T.E.P. and the Holiday Train. In fact, we collected 254 pounds of food and then spent a morning stocking S.T.E.P.’s shelves.

What is the Holiday Train?

St. Louis Park hosted the 2016 Canadian Pacific Holiday Train on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the intersection of Library Lane and West Lake Street, right outside S.T.E.P.’s front door. The second way we were able to help S.T.E.P. was by participating as a proud sponsor of this magical event.  The Holiday Train’s mission is to raise awareness and collect donations to combat food insecurity in local communities. All the donations gathered that day at the St. Louis Park Holiday Train stop went to S.T.E.P. But it wasn’t only about a very cool train decked out in lights come down the tracks. The day was filled with food and music (by Tim Mahoney no less) to help build community and bring attention to the issue of food insecurity. It was a beautiful day as the snow elegantly fell from the sky. Truly a fantastic event all around! Catch a glimpse of the Holiday Train at the video below.

Thank you to S.T.E.P. for everything you do for the St. Louis Park community. And thank you to the Anderson Companies team for giving of both your time and talent to such a worthy organization. Happy Holidays to all!
